Personal Project

Lesson Plan

My Food Guide Pyramid and Exercise

Objective:

Students will learn more about the food guide pyramid

Students will learn to make the food guide pyramid

Materials needed:

Ø a computer with internet connection

Ø a mind willing to be creative

Ø a mind willing to explore

Prior Knowledge:

Review the food groups and the pyramid with the students from the last lesson(s). Ask the students to give their pyramid a name.

Teach:

Show the students the prezi that you have from the previous lesson(s). Review each of the food groups, the names of food groups, the order that they are in on the pyramid, the list of foods that you created from each food group, and the color of each food group. List the name of each food group large enough for all students to see on the chalkboard.

Procedure:

v Explain to the students that they are going to create the food guide pyramid using Prezi.

v Pass out an outline of the instructions on how to create the food guide pyramid on prezi to each student. The students will begin this activity by making a rough draft on paper as to what they want to create on the prezi itself. Then, they need to get onto a computer that has internet access so they can begin working on their assignment.

v Optional- as a fun celebration of learning about health and the food groups on the food guide pyramid, plan ahead and take a walk to the cafeteria (during non-lunch hours) to meet the cafeteria staff and have them explain how important it is to eat healthy.

Assess:

o Can students follow directions about how to create a prezi presentation of the food guide pyramid?

o Do students have the food groups in the correct order?

o Did the students color the food group in the correct color?

o Neatness in how the assignment is carried out and finished.

*Here is a link to the Prezi that I’ve created as an example of what the students would create and turn in to me for this assignment. Prezi link

For December 6, 2010

We are back from Hawaii :( and not getting ready for finals and two games this week. We just played UVU and beat them pretty good. And tomorrow (Saturday) we play against Weber St. at the Marriott Center. We should do pretty well against them too. I've been way busy trying to play catch up with all of my homework from every single one of my classes. I didn't realize how hard it is to travel with the team and try to stay on top of school and homework! Its redunkulous!!! But somehow, someway, we are making it happen. I've been blessed with really cool and understanding teachers that allow me to make up the work that I've missed. Especially my IP&T teacher. He is the BOMB.COM :) You're awesome Danny! Now we are just getting ready for finals, which I know is going to kick my BUTT! :/
For November 29, 2010

This week, the basketball team traveled to Hawaii for a tournament held at BYU Hawaii. We played BYU Hawaii and USD (University of San Diego). We beat BYUH by 50 points and beat USD by 26. It was more like a vacation being in Hawaii rather than a tournament. We had a blast. I had never been to Hawaii before this trip so I loved every minute of it! The food was great. I gained 5 pounds while we were there :) The pineapple was AMAZING!!! And I loved the feeling of the people because they were sooooo laid back. Nothing bothered them at all. I want to move to Hawaii :)
For November 22, 2010

The ladies played Utah St. and Washington St. and whooped on both of them! These were two crucial home wins.

I talk/post about my traveling and games with the BYU Women's basketball team because I'm with them every single day...except for Sundays. So my whole life right now revolves around Basketball, then school, and not much of a social life :/
For November 15, 2010

We (the BYU Women's basketball team and I) left for North Carolina to play duke. We had our hands full, but we couldn't hit a broad side of a barn that night! It was pathetic. During this week, we also traveled to Chicago to play the University of Illinois Chicago. We should have killed this team, but we lost by 3 points. The ladies need to get their act together...and quick!!!

Another week and another blog that needs to be posted :) I finished up my website last week, which was a big project. The only problem now, is the fact that we have another project due in the next couple weeks. I don't mind too much, other than the fact that I am technologically incapable of accomplishing these projects. :( But Danny (my professor) said that I can always ask him for help. I might need to do that this next class period.

I've been working on creating my website for awhile now. It's been taking me forever to figure out how to do it. But I got the hang of it and finished it up. Here is the link to it. It was fun and interesting learning how to create my own website. Difficult at times, but after it's all done, it's pretty legit :)

This week has been crazy busy. I'm currently in the middle of going through 4 tests, 9 papers, and 3 projects in 5 days! I've been swamped!!! But somehow, someway, I'll make it all happen :) Life always throws the curve balls, but it's up to us to hit it out of the park. GO GIANTS!!! :)

Monday, October 11, 2010

I've been using Google in ways that I didn't know possible. I've been using Google Doc a lot this past week. I've had and have a few tests that I've done and will do. So I have set up a few Google Docs in hopes to get a lot of people to finish a review sheet for the tests. This has a helped a ton!!! Gotta love technology :)

I discussed internet safety with my roommates brother and his fiance. We started talking about how they were going to send out their wedding invitations through email and facebook as well as through the mail to those that are really close to them. I began to talk to them about the internet safety videos that I saw from our class websites and they were shocked at some of the things that I told them. Especially about the identity theft that is so prevalent. I also told them about how kids now days spend so much time online that their entire life revolves around being on the internet. I don't know how long this post is supposed to be, but I could go on and on for a long time about the stories that I learned from those videos and then their responses. We talked for about an hour and a half. They also shared some insight on what they thought about the use/misuse/and abuse of the internet and how safe or unsafe it might be. Crazy stuff.

Doritos® - Crash the Super Bowl 2010 Winner: House Rules (Doritos)

This commercial was from the last super bowl. Someone has put it on youtube without giving any recognition for who did the commercial and/or who is responsible for it. This is against copyright rules. This is also not an educational film for students...even though it is very very very funny. It does, however, have the right title and little "R" that's circled. So I'm sure that they tried to give credit where credit was due, but it looks like someone just posted it on youtube.

Michael Jackson-Billie Jean (Music Video Remake)

This is a video of Michael Jackson in different assortments of dances/concerts of the same song. Someone has obviously cut and edited the video to have multiple clips of MJ to the same song and then posted it on youtube. This is against the rules/law of publishing without the right written consent of the owner of all the clips of Michael Jackson, or even MJ himself. I like watching it, but its not for educational use and strictly for entertainment purposes.

Technology is pretty cool...if and only if you know what the heck is going on :) But once you get the hang of it, it's like DUH.... But I'm still in the stage of..."Excuse me? Can you tell me what's going on?" haha "Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, Today is a gift, that's why it's called the present." "Faith is not an inactive verb. There is always action!" Food for thought. :)

What's up class? This is Steve, and as you can tell...I love Football!!! :) I've never done a blog before so this feels really weird writing something that someone may or may not read :/ A little about me...I love sports and want to be an Offensive Coordinator for football at the College level when I grow up :) I want to leave these things with you in the name of......hahahaha jk :)
